Blood Raider Covenant
DESIGNATION: The Covenant / The Sanguinary Sect
LEADERSHIP: Omir Sarikusa
ORIGIN: Sani Sabik Schism (Amarr Empire)
PRIMARY STAGING: Period Basis / Delve
THREAT PROFILE: Extremist / Theological / Capital-Capable
Strategic Overview
The Blood Raider Covenant represents the most militant and organized faction of the ancient Sani Sabik sect currently operating within the cluster. While officially classified by the CONCORD Assembly as a criminal pirate organization, intelligence analysis indicates the Covenant operates more akin to a rogue theocratic state. They possess industrial capacity rivaling minor empires, a rigid hierarchical command structure, and a naval doctrine focused on the neutralization of enemy energy systems and the harvesting of biomass.
Unlike other pirate factions driven by profit or political separatism, the Covenant is motivated by a fanatical interpretation of Amarr scripture, specifically the belief that blood is the medium of the soul and the key to eternal life. Under the leadership of Omir Sarikusa, they have transitioned from scattered cultist cells into a formidable naval power capable of constructing Titan-class vessels and projecting force deep into the Amarr Empire.
Origins & Ideological Doctrine
The Covenant traces its roots to the Sani Sabik ("Blood Seed") heresy, an offshoot of the Amarr faith that predates the modern Empire. The core tenet of their ideology is that some individuals are born to greatness and divinity, while others exist solely to sustain them. This manifests in the ritual consumption and usage of blood, which they believe transfers the life-essence and spiritual power of the victim to the consumer.
Historically, the sect was fractured and persecuted until the rise of Omir Sarikusa in YC 84. Sarikusa, a charismatic and ruthless theologian, unified the disparate clans under the "Covenant," standardizing their rituals and militarizing their worship.
In recent decades, the Covenant’s doctrine has evolved to target Capsuleers (pod pilots). Sarikusa declared the "Golden Age of Pods," asserting that the cloned blood of immortal capsuleers is a more potent reagent for their rituals than that of baseline humans ("cattle"). This theological pivot has justified aggressive incursions into high-security space, known as the "Crimson Harvest."
Governance & Command Structure
The Covenant is a despotic theocracy. Authority flows downward from Sarikusa, who is revered as a living saint or messianic figure. Beneath him sits a cadre of Cardinals and High Priests who oversee both naval flotillas and the sect's "blood farms"—industrial facilities purportedly used for the processing of human biomass.
Archival records from the YC 105–110 era revealed deep corruption within the Amarr Empire that facilitated the Covenant's rise. The former Court Chamberlain, Dochuta Karsoth, was identified as a secret collaborator, providing the Raiders with intelligence and safe harbor in exchange for the elimination of his political rivals. This symbiotic relationship allowed the Covenant to entrench themselves in the Bleak Lands and Devoid regions before Karsoth's eventual downfall.
Military Doctrine & Industrial Capacity
Blood Raider naval doctrine is characterized by aggressive close-range engagement and electronic warfare superiority. Their vessels, often adorned with crimson livery and golden plating, utilize advanced energy nosferatu (vampire) technology to drain capacitor power from enemy ships, fueling their own systems. This is typically paired with Stasis Webifiers to immobilize prey for boarding or destruction.
Capital Proliferation: In YC 119, the strategic landscape shifted when capsuleer forces discovered massive Blood Raider engineering complexes (Sotiyo-class) in the Period Basis region. These shipyards confirmed the Covenant's ability to manufacture capital ships, including the Chemosh-class Dreadnought, the Dagon-class Force Auxiliary, and the colossal Molok-class Titan. The Molok, named for a deceptive figure in Amarr scripture, features a specialized hold for transporting corpses, underscoring the integration of ritual into their logistics.
Territorial Influence
The Covenant maintains a sovereign-level presence in the southern regions of New Eden. Their primary stronghold is Period Basis, where their shipyards and training citadels are concentrated. They also maintain significant control over parts of Delve and project constant raiding pressure into Querious.
Forward operations are heavily concentrated in the Bleak Lands and the Kahneid region (Khanid Kingdom borders). These areas serve as hunting grounds where Raider flotillas ambush trade convoys and capsuleers to secure biomass for the rituals conducted in the deep south.
Major Conflicts & Campaigns
The Mabnen I Incident (YC 107)
One of the most brazen attacks in Covenant history occurred when Omir Sarikusa orchestrated the "Insorum Strike." Raiders bombarded the planet Mabnen I with canisters of Insorum, a substance developed by the Minmatar scientist Dr. Arzad to break Vitoc dependency. The attack was not humanitarian; it was designed to cause chaotic slave uprisings and destabilize the Amarr Empire. The resulting carnage provided the Covenant with ample opportunity to raid the system amidst the confusion.
The Siege of the Period Basis Shipyards (YC 119)
Following intelligence leaks regarding the location of Blood Raider capital production facilities, a coalition of capsuleer alliances launched a massive offensive into Period Basis. This conflict resulted in the destruction of the first identified Blood Raider Sotiyo. Despite the loss, the Covenant demonstrated the capacity to rebuild these facilities rapidly, and "mining operations" by Blood Raider defense fleets remain a constant threat in the region.
The Crimson Harvest
An annual strategic offensive timed to coincide with ancient Sani Sabik holidays. The Covenant launches synchronized raids across Empire space, deploying "Gauntlet" sites and forward operating bases. These incursions are often met by the Order of St. Tetrimon, an Amarr militant religious order dedicated to purging the Sani Sabik heresy. The clash between the Raiders and the Order has become a predictable, yet bloody, seasonal war.
Diplomatic Status
Amarr Empire: The Covenant is designated as Heretic Extremis. No quarter is given. The Theology Council views them as a spiritual cancer.
The Khanid Kingdom: Relations are complex. While officially hostile, the Kingdom's proximity to Raider space and shared estrangement from the Amarr throne (historically) has led to rumors of back-channel commerce, particularly in slave trade.
Other Pirate Factions: The Covenant is largely isolationist. They view the Sansha's Nation as technological abominations (removing the blood/soul for cybernetics is blasphemy to a Raider). Relations with the Guristas and Angel Cartel are transactional at best, hostile at worst.
